![]() We are officially 1/2 done Unit B Chemistry in Science 30. On Friday, the 30s completed their first Unit B Quiz, averaging 63%. A few students really struggled with inputting numerical response and were confused by some multiple choice questions. Luckily, students are able to rewrite all assessments in Science 30. All they have to do is complete their quiz corrections (which they will have a few minutes to do tomorrow) as well as during FLT time. The rewrite must be completed prior to the unit test being written, and I will take the better of the two quiz marks. Soooo... it's low risk, high reward! On a related note, only 1 person in the class completed their corrections of the Unit A Biology Test to rewrite... it's quite disappointing that only one person in the entire class is taking advantage of the opportunities provided to improve their mark. I understand that Science 30 is an option class, I just hope that kids are putting in the effort required to be successful! ![]() Science 30s have been chug-a-lugging through Unit B, and it's been a struggle for some, and very easy for others. This is because many students have taken chemistry 20 prior to Science 30, which allows them to have better background understanding of the more difficult topics in the unit. The first half of the unit deals with acids and bases, specific to acid rain, and the students learn about pH and titration analysis of Bronsted Lowry Acids and Bases. If a student came into Science 30 with only Bio 20, this unit is quite difficult to comprehend, as it is likely the student has not encountered anything chemistry related since the first unit in science 10 (this could be over 2 years ago!) Luckily, the second half of the unit evens the class out, as nobody has learned organic chemistry no matter what prerequisite courses they may have. I have been very impressed with the Science 30s' effort this semester. All but one student handed in their last project on time! Awesome work guys! Keep it up! This week in Science 30 Monday: Topic 5 Learning from Pollution Tuesday: Titration Lab Analysis Wednesday: School Wide Assembly Thursday: Work Period / Study Period Friday: Unit B Quiz 1 Upcoming Due Dates and Assessments Friday Oct 23: Unit B Quiz 1 Tuesday Oct 27: Titration Lab due ![]() I promise that the science 30s will have no homework over thanksgiving. And if your son or daughter is doing science homework?? It's because they are behind or haven't handed something in! That way, they can enjoy the 5 days off and get a good start the week after!
