A reminder that the Diploma exam is a mandatory exam, and a student is only able to exempt after attempting the exam. So please, ensure that students are adequately prepared for the exam. It is (unfortunately) very likely the government will NOT be exempting the Science 30 Diploma Exam.
I have noticed a decline in effort of the grade 12s since last week, and the overall feeling that students have checked out for summer.... this is a bad idea! The diploma exam will not be easy! So please, prepare! Attend diploma prep, review all the notes (theory and calculations) and practice practice practice! If you have any questions, I will be available for help every afternoon from 12-4pm (except Monday!) Good Luck Studying! A reminder that the Science 30 Diploma is Friday June 26

![]() As we all have been aware of the tragedy of Jaydon Sommerfeld's passing, it is understandable that the school has taken measures to reduce the stress on students during this difficult time. As such we will be recommending that all students attempt to write exams but that all school based final exams will be write without risk, meaning that the students' marks will be calculated using the highest mark of either their final exam mark or letting their school based mark stand as their final grade. We are currently working with Alberta Education about requesting exemptions for diploma exams and we will be communicating that as soon as we have an answer. Due to curricular outcome requirements, the final project for Science 30s, as well as any late assignments they would like to hand in will remain due by 3pm Friday June 12. This will allow students to improve their class marks. I would like to encourage the kids to hand in whatever work they have done for the project, to at least get minimum marks! As for assessment in science 30, the students will have the option to complete their in class final at any time (during school hours) Thursday, Friday or Monday. This exam cannot hurt their science 30 mark however, it may drastically improve their class mark, as it is possible to replace the midterm and count as the final. Again, here is the remaining work for science 30s: Friday June 12 @3pm: All missing work / projects due Monday June 15 @4pm: All final exams must be completed Science 30 Diploma Exam: Friday June 26 Last week, the science 30s had a chance to finish up the research portion of their project. This week, the science 30s will be asked to work on their project portion of the Unit D section of science 30. I really hope these students step it into higher gear, for a lot of them, they have used this time to seemingly do nothing. It has become quite frustrating. I have to remind them that the project is required learning, and the information will be tested on their diploma.
This Thursday is the final class in science 30, with 3 flex days to follow. Students will be given the opportunity to work in small groups if they choose to come in on more difficult questions (more exam like) during this time! I hope all students will take these opportunities. The In class final for the science 30s will be this Thursday, June 11. The kids had the option of writing it on Monday or Thursday, and they voted in class to have the test on Thursday, so they don't have to come in again during FLT.... This week in Chem 20 Monday: Project Part A work time Tuesday: Project Part B work time Wednesday: Project Part C work time Thursday: SCIENCE 30 IN CLASS FINAL Friday: FLT Upcoming due dates: Thursday June 11: Science 30 Unit D Project Due Thursday June 11: IN CLASS FINAL EXAM Science 30 Diploma Exam: Friday June 26, 2015 |
