![]() This weekend, we were again devastated with the loss of Quinton Peplinski, CHS Alumni, and all around amazing young man. This will no doubt bring up some major feelings for students, and drudge up memories of June for others. With a potential funeral this week, the plan may be interrupted if students need to attend the funeral, however this week the science 30s are given time to study for their unit exam on Thursday March 31 and work on their organic public awareness project. I am away at Nationals for Boxing in Quebec City this week, but may end up coming home early if things don't go as planned. If students have questions, please encourage them to email me! This Week in Science 30 Tuesday-Wednesday: Study / Work Period Thursday: UNIT B TEST Friday: Work Period Upcoming Due Dates: Thursday March 31: Unit B Test Monday April 4: P.A. This week, Science 30s will be learning the organic chemistry section of Unit B the Chemistry unit. If students have taken chem 30, this will be a review, but other than that, this will be brand new for most of the kids in class! Yay! On top of that, Organic Chem is my favourite (as I have my honours degree in OChem), so I am pumped! After this week's learning, we are officially finished the chemistry outcomes for Science 30, but we won't be having the unit test for another week, as they have to finish a project first!
This week in Science 30 Monday: Topic 6 Alkanes, Alkenes, Alkynes Tuesday: Topic 7 Chemical Pollutants Wednesday: Topic 8 Alcohols, Acids and Esters Upcoming Due Dates Wed Mar 23: Titration Lab due Thurs April 1: Unit B Chemistry Test Happy Easter To Everyone! Have a great 5 day weekend! ![]() Last week, the science 30s completed their first unit (biology) and we moved on to the chemistry unit! This section is a lot more difficult, as there are a few of the science 30s that haven't encountered chemistry since science 10 (two years ago now!) Needless to say, chemistry might take a little bit more effort on their part! This week in Science 30 Monday: The Effects of Combustion Tuesday: Quantifying Acids Wednesday: Learning from Acid Deposition Thursday: Acid Base Titration Lab Friday: Unit B Quiz 1 (Topic 1-5) Upcoming Due Dates Mon May 14: Indicator Lab Due Fri May 17: Unit B Quiz 1 (Topic 1-5) Wed May 23: Titration Lab due This week marks the end of the Bio unit in Science 30, as they write their first Unit Test TUESDAY! After that, it's on to chemistry! We have decided that it doesn't make sense for the students to switch over to Ms. Wasylecszko's classroom when she already has 12 physics 30s (leaving me with 5 chem 30s) so the science 30s will continue the course with me! Yay! Coming up in the chemistry unit, we start with acid base chemistry, specifically focusing on acid rain and industrial effects on the environment. From there we head into organic chemistry (but not for a while!)
Please make sure to book a parent teacher interview this Thursday if you have any questions, concerns or comments, or just want to say hello! Coming Up This Week in Science 30 Monday: Study / Review for Test Tuesday: UNIT B TEST Wednesday: Topic 1 Acid Base Chem Thursday: Topic 2 Measuring pH Friday: Indicator Quick Lab Upcoming Due Dates in Science 30 Monday March 7: Genetic Technology Project due Tuesday March 8: UNIT B Biology TEST Monday March 14: Indicator Quick Lab due |
