![]() This chemistry unit is extremely FUN! We have been performing a lot of labs, and really experiencing the chemistry! I have really enjoyed making soap with the kids, as well as making bouncy balls. This week we will be performing an intense chemical lab to investigate chemical reactions! Before the break we should be finishing up the chapter and have a quiz before the kids head off to break, that way they don't have any homework over the break! This Week in Science 24 Monday: Alloys and Metals Tuesday: Cosmetic Chemistry Wednesday: Chemical Reaction Lab Thursday: Chapter Review Friday: Mark Review / Useful Reactions Upcoming Due Dates: Friday March 27: Chapter 1 Review Due Wednesday April 1: Chapter 2 Review Due Thursday April 2: Chapter Quiz

After the unit test last week, the science 24s received their first project for Unit A: Chemistry! This project asks students to focus on a product, and to figure out the chemical behind the compound. Then they are asked to create a YouTube video explaining their product in an unique and interesting way! Should be fun! After that, we will be delving into the chemicals of past and present and seeing how they are used in daily life.
This week in Science 24 Monday: PD day Tuesday: Project Work Time Wednesday: Project Work Time Thursday: Chemistry of Cleaning Friday: Synthetic Chemistry Upcoming Due Dates Friday March 20: YouTube Project Due This week in science 24 we will be finishing up the chemistry unit, and doing a unit test! The unit spans 2 chapters of chem section of science 24. After this unit, we will be beginning Unit A of science 24, which combines physics and chemistry!
This week in science 24: Monday: GASLAND Documentary Tuesday: Assembly (no class) Wednesday: Review of Unit Thursday: Unit Test Friday: Review of Test Upcoming Due Dates: THURSDAY: UNIT TEST FRIDAY: Booklet Check! ![]() This week in science 24 the kids will be performing an inquiry based lab in which they determine the energy available for our body due to nuts (protein), oil (fats) and licorice (sugar) and determine which would be the best for available energy. This lab will involve lighting food on fire, so I think the students will have fun with it! After that, we will be getting into stored energy sources, including fossil fuels! This week in Science 24: Monday: Energy in Snack Food Lab Tuesday: Chapter Review (work) Wednesday: Mark Chapter Review / Fossil Fuels Thursday: Combustion Friday: Inquiry Lab (Combustion) Upcoming Due Dates: Wednesday March 4: Chapter Questions Due Wednesday March 11: Chapter Questions Due Thursday March 12: Unit A Exam After a long break, and only 2 weeks of school into the semester, I'm sure the students are excited to get back... right?! Hopefully the science 24s haven't forgotten everything they learned?!
Just in case they were a little busy and not school oriented over the past 10 days, we will be reviewing the first half of the unit on Tuesday. I will be discussing with the class the importance of completing their work and making sure they ask questions and rewriting assessments when they don't do as well as they should have. According to the science department assessment policy, students are able to rewrite quizzes during FLT time or lunch, after completing their homework and corrections, in order to prove they have put in the necessary effort to rewrite. This week, in science 24, we will be diving into the more chemistry based part of Unit B, dealing with photosynthesis, cellular respiration and hydrocarbon combustion. We will be performing a variety of inquiries and hands on activities to really experience the science, and I look forward to it! Soo.... after all of that... what's up for this week?!? This week in Chem 30 Monday: still off... kids never seem to be at school anymore ;) Tuesday: Go over quiz / work on generator project Wednesday: Cellular Respiration / Photosynthesis (topic 7) Thursday: Energy Pyramids (topic 8) Friday: Sources of Energy and Food (topic 9) Upcoming Due Dates Wednesday March 4 - Mark Chapter Review in class Wednesday March 11 - Mark Chapter Review in class Thursday March 12 - Unit A Exam REMINDER: PLEASE SIGN UP FOR PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11 FROM 5PM-8PM! ![]() After one week into second semester I am very excited about where we are headed in Science 24! Classes have settled in, and we have gotten under way with the energy unit! Students were asked to create energy conversion models that demonstrate at least 3 energy conversions, and the work being done was excellent! This week, we will get more into the mathematical section of energy, learning about work energy and power. This part of the unit is extremely useful to real life, which is key to kids being interested in what we are learning! A reminder after this week students are off for 9 days for teacher convention week... I am in high hopes that students won't forget everything we learned after the break! This week in Science 24: Monday: Energy Conversions Review Tuesday: Generating Energy Wednesday: Generating Project Thursday: Power and Efficiency Friday: Chapter Review Upcoming Due Dates: Thursday Feb 12: Energy Conversions Project Due Friday Feb 13: Energy Part 1 Booklet Check ![]() Welcome to Science 24! I look forward to another great semester here at Chestermere High School! For many of you, this will be the last science class you will ever take, so it will be my job to try to make you fall in love with science! Please make sure to check out this website weekly, to see what is going on and what is coming up! I will have helpful links and messages to do with Diplomas and any relevant information! It is important to keep these lines of communication open, to ensure a quality relationship between teachers, parents and students. Success is best achieved when we are all on the same page! In an effort to ensure Life Long Learning, I will be out of the school on Wednesday February 4 for a Leadership Conference at Rocky View School Division. Although extremely beneficial to my teaching practice, it is quite frustrating as it is the 3rd day of school. I apologize in advance for any confusion or inconvenience. There will be a small research assignment provided to enhance the learning that day. Students will be allowed time to complete all work assigned so far as well. This is my first time teaching science 24 in 6 years, and I am looking forward to it. It is my hope that we can work together to allow all students to successfully achieve a passing grade in science 24, so they are able to obtain the course requirements for graduation. I intend on this course being very lab oriented, in order for students to experience the science! Hopefully kids enjoy it! This week in Science 24 Monday: Course Outline / Topic 1: Energy Inquiry and Activity Tuesday: Topic 2: Energy Conversions Wednesday: Work Period / Book Cover (Ms. Mogck at RVS) Thursday: Lab 1: Chemical Reactions and Heat Friday: Topic 3: Conservation of Energy Upcoming Due Dates Friday Feb 6 - SIGNED COURSE OUTLINE DUE Thursday Feb 12 - Lab due |
