I was again very impressed by the science 24's achievement on the Biology unit test. They did very well, and were extremely successful at understanding difficult concepts like genetics and immunity!
This week, the science 24s will be performing many physics labs involving running (or walking) to determine velocity and distance. The 24s will be required to graphically analyze their movements. This is the final unit for the science 24s, and after that, we will be heading into review of the semester. This week in Science 24 Monday: Velocity Tuesday: Graphing Velocity Wednesday: Chapter Review Thursday: Velocity Quiz Friday: Review of Velocity

Last week, the science 24s learned about genetics, and performed a survey lab to determine the occurrence of specific genes within Chestermere High. At the end of the week, they created their own genetically modified creatures: for example the Wolphin, a combination of a whale and dolphin, and the Mercat, a combination of a cat and a mermaid. It was very fun!
This week, we will be looking more into genetic engineering, and we will complete the Biology unit. Friday, we will be moving on to the final unit in Science 24: Travel Safety (physics). This week in science 24: Monday: Genetic Modification and Mutation Tuesday: Genetic technologies / Unit Review Wednesday: Unit Review / Work Period Thursday: Unit C Test Friday: Intro to Unit D Upcoming due dates: Thursday May 28: Unit C Test Friday May 29: Genetics Lab due ![]() Last week, the science 24s learned about the immune system and immune response. I really feel like they learned how our bodies protect us from pathogens and we stay healthy! I was very impressed! This coming week, we will be diving into genetics! I hope the science 24s enjoy this Genetics topic as much as they enjoyed the immune response! We will start with a genetic survey, that will introduce the concept and from there, dive into the molecular level genetics and inheritance! This week in Science 24: Tuesday: Biology Quiz 1 Wednesday: Genetics Survey Lab Thursday: Topic 1 Intro to Genetics Friday: Topic 2 Inheritance Upcoming due dates: Tuesday May 19: Biology Quiz 1 Tuesday May 26: Selective Breeding Diagram due Please remember to come check out the exhibition of learning Wednesday May 20 from 5-8pm at the school. Room 1028 (Ms. Mogck's classroom) will be a full science department exhibition, featuring live chemistry labs, biology projects and physics experiments! ![]() This week in science 24 we will be discussing the immune system, but first I have to make sure the kids understand why we watched movies all last week! Monday, I will be at a conference, and the students will be expected to complete the Chapter Questions dealing with Epidemics and Pandemics. After that we will get into the immune response. I really think this is some of the most interesting and applicable learning in science 24, as we will be discussing vaccinations and allergies along with learning how our bodies naturally respond to pathogen attacks! I promise the kids will have NO HOMEWORK for the long weekend (not that I give homework to them ever!) This week in Science 24: Monday: Chapter Review Tuesday: Intro to Immune System Wednesday: Vaccines and Allergies Thursday: Finish up Immune Response Upcoming due dates Tuesday May 12: Mark Chapter Review This week is the movie study for science 24s! We will be analyzing the movie OUTBREAK do start our discussion on epidemics, and CONTAGION to discuss pandemics. This week should be a fun easy week for science 24!
