![]() Welcome to Midterm Week! Thursday, chem 30s will be writing their midterm. This test consists of 35 marks, made up of multiple choice and numerical response questions fashioned after the diploma exam. If a student doesn't do as well as they want to, not to worry, if the students do better on the final than their mark on the midterm then the midterm mark will be replaced with the final mark (only if it benefits the student!) In keeping with final exams, the exemption policy has been axed. That means final exams are no longer to be exempt (in the 20/30 levels). Students in grade 10 are able to exempt 1 exam (either core or option) per semester. This is to better prepare the students for diploma exams: the idea is that they will be used to studying for multiple tests per semester. Another exciting development at Chestermere High School is the fact that we are part of High School Redesign, we have decided to halt classes prior to all diploma exams. That means, the students will be able to attend class tutorials January 13-16 but are not required to be in class (so if they choose to study during that time they are able to stay home and study). If the class is not complete however, it may be expected by the teacher that students attend (in order to complete the curriculum). I plan on being finished chemistry 30 curriculum prior to the Christmas break, so this should work out well for the kids to come back and review before their in class final exam. I am very excited about all the changes occurring at CHS, and they are all to benefit the students.
