Last week, the students had their first quiz in chem 30, and it was a big jump from the kinds of questions many of the students experienced in chem 20. The reason quizzes are not worth marks in chem 30, is to ensure these assessments are low risk, allowing students to see and try diploma style questions, without being punished. They are able to retake this quiz as many times as they want, and until the exam they are able to rewrite the quiz (after completing corrections). So hopefully they are not freaking out, because its ok to fail, as long as they learn from their mistakes!
This week in chem 30 we will finish the first unit; this does not mean there is an exam any time soon, it simply means that I will have directly taught them the unit, and it is now up to the students to let the learning marinate and take hold (and understanding) in their brains! Reminder, the Terry Fox run is this Friday, and if you have pledged to donate, you can use the link http://www.terryfox.ca/ChestermereHigh to donate today!
