This is the week that organic chemistry gets difficult. It was easy to see who had completed their homework and was understanding ochem and who was just slacking off for the past 2 weeks (for the most part - obviously there are exceptions!) The chem 30s performed their half-way quiz on Wednesday, averaging 60% overall... not awesome... but good enough to move forward, as this quiz is rewritable until the unit test! The students were then given 2 work periods to work on the organic project, and I am hoping they used their time wisely and actually performed the required research! If not, this project is going to be a lot of work.
As aforementioned, this week in chem 30, we begin the "tough stuff"; organic reactions. Today I will be going through all types of reactions, so today is NOT a day to miss. Tomorrow the kids will have a work period to ensure they can work on the learning they will do today. The rest of the week in chem 30 we learn polymerization and industrial organic chemistry, leading into the Unit Test next week!
