![]() We have reached the half way point of unit B. That means we have completed approximately 25% of the entire chem 30 curriculum. That also means it's time for a quiz and a little application of the science. I will admit, last week I was quite concerned with the lack of understanding by the chem 30s. I'm not sure if it was because many of the kids were focusing on lab completion and not working on their homework, but I can see they are trying. What I did notice on Friday, is that the kids are working on their practice questions with the key open right in front of them. This does not actually help kids in the learning process. In fact, it tricks the students' brain into thinking they know what's going on, when in reality there is no understanding. Now I can bring my proof of the exit slip. On Friday, the kids were given an exit slip with 5 multiple choice questions, and the average was 30%. So, I am going to have a chat with the chem 30s after their quiz tomorrow about effective study habits! Woohoo.
