This week in chem 30 we will finish up Unit A Thermochemistry, and head into Unit B Electrochem. Electrochem will be taught more inquiry based, as the split class will require a little bit more work from the students…. The final day to do the rewrite of the quiz which many students did poorly on is Monday, as the unit test is Tuesday.
Electrochemistry is a much more theoretical unit than Thermochemistry, so all my math-loving friends are likely not going to enjoy this unit as much. Many students struggle with electrochem, and it is worth 30% of the curriculum (and diploma), so it is important for students to work really hard on this unit. This is also the last chance for students to switch over to Science 30 from chem 30. If your child is currently failing chemistry 30, it is strongly advised to move over to science 30. All chem 30 students are able to switch, as the prereqs have all been met by getting into chem 30, and the science 30 curriculum is slightly easier (so students will be more successful if they are struggling in chemistry).
