![]() Last week the chem 30s didn't have very much fun with the Summative #2 exam. Many people ran out of time, even though they were given 2 hours to complete a 60 mark exam. What this tells me is that many of the kids may understand what is going on in class, but cannot apply it under pressure. What I need from the chem 30s, is for them to be confident in their understanding of the concepts tested. That way, they will be able to complete the test on time. But it's not all bad news! This week I received some amazing projects! I am very excited to continue marking the ones I have, but so far, so good! One thing I have noticed is that many students are having trouble with time management. I gave the class 1 month and 10 days to complete this project, and accepted it after a long weekend, and STILL not everyone handed it in on time. Obviously, I will accept late projects, however according to the science department assessment policy, they will not have the privilege of rewriting the summative exam. The same thing goes for the lab that is due next Monday; already I have had many emails asking for extensions on the lab. Yes you can hand the lab in late, however again, the opportunity to rewrite will be lost. This consequence is instead of losing marks, and is an attempt to train students' behaviours into productive, time-using members of society :) This week in Chem 30 Tuesday: Into to Organic Chemistry Wednesday: Topic 3 Alkanes Thursday: Topic 4&5: Cyclos and Isomers Friday: Work Period Upcoming Due Dates Mon Nov 21: Breathalyzer Lab due Thurs Nov 24: Quiz Topic 1-5 Thus Nov 24: Rewrite Summative 2 (3:54pm)
