You probably did not giggle as hard as I did with that title, unless you have a good understanding of chemistry. A bomb calorimeter is a device used to determine the amount of energy released in a chemical reaction, so it is used to determine something as extreme as the amount of damage a bomb may cause if dropped, or something as simple as the number of calories you eat when you gobble up that delicious piece of chocolate cake! This week is all about calorimetry in chem 30! The kids will begin with their lab on Monday, have a quick quiz on Tuesday and move on to calorimetry for the rest of the week!
Last week, the kids encountered their first exit slip of the year, and it told me a lot!! It told me that the chemistry 30 classes have not realized they are in chem 30, and that they will have to put in a little bit more work than they had before (in chem 20) to be successful! Hopefully with that little kick in the pant, the 30s will now be on the right track in chemistry! This week in chem 30: Monday: Calorimetry Lab Tuesday: Unit A Quiz 1 (Topic 1-4) Wednesday: Topic 5 Calorimetry Thursday: Topic 6 Everyday Calorimetry Friday: Work Period (Ms. Mogck Away for Volleyball) Upcoming Due Dates: Tuesday September 15: Quiz 1 Monday September 21: Calorimeter Lab due Thursday September 24: Calorimeter quick lab due Monday September 28: Fuel Calorimetry lab due Tuesday September 29: Unit A Test (Thermochem)
