![]() I would like to thank everyone who came out to support the Science Olympics on Thursday at the Exhibition of Learning! And congrats to the Chem 20 students who WON IT ALL!! We had so much fun, with over 55 kids competing in the Rube Goldberg Challenge! It really does show the type of learners, trials and success we see everyday in the science classroom! On Wednesday, we finished all the "stand and deliver" lessons in Chem 30! Now that does not mean that the learning in chem 30 is over, and it does mean that the kids still do have a lot of work to complete! This week, the chem 30s will perform their final equilibrium project and their Unit D test. After that, they will have time to study for their final, and practice with a field test. Reminder, there are only 10 days left of class time! 10 Days!?!?! This week in Chem 30 Monday: Equilibrium Project Tuesday: Equilibrium Project Wednesday: No Class - Assembly Thursday: Unit D Acid Base Equilibrium Test Friday: Work Period (Lab / Project Work) Upcoming Due Dates in Chem 30 Thurs June 2: Unit D Acid Base Test Mon June 6: Field Test (in class) Mon June 6: Acid Base Titration Lab due Wed June 8: Equilibrium Project due Fri June 10: Chem 30 In Class Final Exam Bonus Review Project due Friday June 10 Prior to Exam! (Earn up to 5% added to 1 lab for each completed Unit Summary) That's right. There is still TONS of work to do in Chem 30. I have noticed a lot of the students have simply taken their own timeline on handing things in. This is extremely frustrating, as the due dates are spread out to allow class time for each project... when kids are not using their time effectively, a lot of work tends to pile up. Please encourage your student to hand things in on time.

This week in Chem 30, we will finish up the final lesson. That's right, we are done all the learning in chem 30. That does NOT mean we are done all the work. In fact, the chem 30s still have a lab to perform, a major project to complete, a unit test, a field test and an in class final exam. That is a LOT of work and assessment still! A reminder too that most of the chem 30s should rewrite that first quiz... and it must be done prior to the Unit Test (June 2).
I would also like to remind everyone about the SCIENCE OLYMPICS, occurring this Thursday, May 26, during the exhibition of learning at CHS. This event will run 5-8pm in the North Social Area, and everyone is invited to come out and watch, or take part in this exciting event! Hope to see you all there! This Week in Chem 30 Tues: Topic 7 Titration Curves Wed: Titration Lab Prep Thurs: Titration Lab (continued) Fri: Work Period Upcoming Due Dates in Chem 30 Wed May 25: Buffer Quick Lab due Thurs June 2: Unit D Test ![]() Based on the quiz marks from Friday, we are going to have to slow down the learning in chem 30, and make sure students are completing their work and asking questions... It all seems "easy" until they get to a test! So, instead of learning a lot this week, the chem 30s will have 2 work periods, to enable them to ask questions and complete the labs... This Week in Chem 30 Monday: Buffer Quick Lab Tuesday: Work Period / Review of Quiz Wednesday: Topic 6 Buffers Thursday: Work Period Upcoming Due Dates Wed May 18: Indicator Lab due Wed May 25: Buffer Quick Lab due ![]() Happy Mother's Day to all of you wonderful Moms who have raised your babies to be ALMOST ADULTS! Terrifying! I hope you all got out and enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend! This week in chem 30 we will be getting more into Acid Base Equilibrium, which comes with a whole bunch of labs! Yay! It is important that students stay focused, even with the nice weather; and with grad coming up, it's pretty difficult. It is my hope that the 4 chem 30s can keep themselves focused, as this unit D (acid base) is often the most difficult of the four units in chem 30. This Week in Chem 30 Monday: Topic 4 Bronsted Lowry Acid Base Tuesday: Topic 5 ICE Tables Wednesday: Indicator Lab Thursday: Work Period Friday: Unit C Quiz Topic 1-5 (moodle) Upcoming Due Dates in Chem 30 Mon May 9: Industrial OChem Project due Fri May 13: Unit C Quiz 1 (moodle) ![]() Last week in chem 30, I finished teaching the chem 30s Unit C Organic Chemistry. I'm sad, because this is my favourite unit and now its over :( This week, the chem 30s will complete their unit test, and finish up their organic chem project they were assigned last week. From there, we move on to the most difficult unit, Unit D: Acid Base Equilibrium.
