![]() With the weather FINALLY getting nice, chem 30 is ramping up to the final stages! This week, we will complete unit C organic chemistry. The students will perform a quick (fun) lab, and be given their final project for chem 30. Thursday and Friday this week I am away for PD at the University, so the students will have time to complete their quiz and work on anything they are not done! Reminder: Tuesday after school the chem 30s can rewrite their Summative 2, as long as they have no late assignments or projects, and have completed their corrections BY MONDAY after school. This week in Chem 30 Monday: Topic 10 Polymerization Tuesday: Organic Reactions Lab Wednesday: Work Period Thursday: Quiz (Topic 9-10) Friday: Work Period Upcoming Due Dates Tues May 2: Rewrite Summative 2 AFTER SCHOOL Thurs May 4: Quiz Topic 9-10 Mon May 8: Organic Reactions Quick Lab due Tues May 9: Summative 3 (Unit A,B,C)

![]() Last week, the chem 30s were handed back their second (cumulative) exam. Some were happy, some not so much. On Friday, during the FLT day, many of them came in to go over the test. This allowed me time to go into more depth explaining how to do the questions (especially the long answer questions). The rewrite for this exam will be Tuesday May 2, after school. In order to rewrite, students must have handed in all projects and labs on time, have completed all booklet questions, and test corrections. This week in Chem 30 we will be continuing on with organic chemistry. Specifically dealing with isomers, cyclos / aromatics and unsaturated hydrocarbons. As we are half way through the semester, and this is the final semester of high school for most chem 30s, I would encourage them to stay focused and work hard, while enjoying their time remaining at CHS. This week in Chem 30 Monday: Topic 4&5 Isomers and Cyclos Tuesday: Alkenes and Alkynes Wednesday: Aromatics Thursday: Quiz Topic 1-5 Upcoming Due Dates in Chem 30 Mon April 10: Major Project 1 Due Thurs April 13: Breathalyzer Lab due STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE NO HW OVER SPRING BREAK FOR CHEM 30 (If they do, it's because they didn't hand things in on time! ) ![]() Last week, the chem 30s had 3 work periods - so if you heard complaining at home about a project or a lab - well you know they weren't using their time appropriately! This week, the chem 30s have 1 more work period - but it is more for studying and preparing for their second exam of the year (Tuesday). After that - we move into the best unit ever (yes I'm bias, but this is what my degree is in!) - ORGANIC CHEMISTRY!!! Woot Woot Woot! Should be Alkynes of fun ;) Reminder, Friday is an FLT day, meaning that I will not be teaching during this class, however it will be a good opportunity for students to work on upcoming projects and labs that are due! This week in Chem 30 Monday: Study period / review Tuesday: Summative Exam 2 Wednesday: Topic 1 & 2 Intro to Industrial OChem Thursday: Topic 3 Alkanes Friday: FLT Day (work period) Upcoming Due Dates in Chem 30 TUES APR 4: SUMMATIVE 4 *** please note: students are able to come in to begin the exam at lunch, and are able to stay through class and the attached FLT if they wish to have additional time to complete the exam *** Fri Apr 7: Project 1 Due Thurs Apr 13: Breathalyzer Redox Lab due |
