![]() Welcome to Chemistry 30! I look forward to another great semester here at Chestermere High School! For many of you, this will be your final semester of high school, which is very exciting, but comes with it's own set of challenges! Please make sure to check out this website weekly, to see what is going on and what is coming up! I will have helpful links and messages to do with Diplomas and any relevant information! It is important to keep these lines of communication open, to ensure a quality relationship between teachers, parents and students. Success is best achieved when we are all on the same page! In an effort to ensure Life Long Learning, I will be out of the school on Wednesday February 4 for a Leadership Conference at Rocky View School Division. Although extremely beneficial to my teaching practice, it is quite frustrating as it is the 3rd day of school. I apologize in advance for any confusion or inconvenience. There will be a small research assignment provided to enhance the learning that day. Students will be allowed time to complete all work assigned so far as well. This week in Chem 30 Monday: Course Outline / WHMIS / Unit A Intro (topic 1) Tuesday: Intro to Enthalpy (topic 2) Wednesday: Food Calories Research (Ms. Mogck at RVS) Thursday: Reaction Enthalpy (topic 3) Friday: Hess' Law (topic 4) Upcoming Due Dates Friday Feb 6 - SIGNED COURSE OUTLINE DUE

This week marks the end of classes and the beginning of diploma exams for the students at CHS. In order to better prepare the students for the chemistry diploma, the students will be writing the in class final exam on Thursday. This test normally demonstrates to students the areas of weakness and allows them a better feeling of what the diploma will be like. Prior to the exam, I will be running tutorials to review the types of information the students will be required to know for each unit! Although classes are not mandatory, I do encourage students to attend minimum 2 tutorial times prior to the in class final!

This week in chem 30, students will be finishing up their Organic Chemistry and remembering everything they forgot over the break! After that, we will focus on review in class, leading up to the in class final, and eventually the diploma. Just a reminder that our regularly scheduled classes will go until Monday Jan 12 followed by Focused Learning Time Tutorials for the remainder of that week and Exam Week starting Jan 19. Chemistry 30 students are expected to write the in class final exam (worth 5% of their grade) on Thursday, January 15 during class time (2:18-3:34pm) The rest of the week will be meant for review, and students are welcome in my classroom at all times (not merely during their assigned class period) as long as they are working hard and not being disruptive! I strongly suggest students enroll in a diploma prep. Earlier in the semester I emailed options to both parents and students, in hopes that they would sign up. Understanding this is not the only course students may want to be prepared for, these tutorial sessions during the break will be provided for students to be sufficiently prepared for the diploma!
