This is one of the most frustrating questions that I get near the end of the year. Especially with 10 days left of class. What I want to say is "Well you should have done your work during the year." But apparently that isn't very nice. So, I have provided students with COMPLETELY OPTIONAL PROJECTS to improve their grade.

![]() I would like to thank everyone who came out to support the Science Olympics on Thursday at the Exhibition of Learning! And congrats to the Chem 20 students who WON IT ALL!! We had so much fun, with over 55 kids competing in the Rube Goldberg Challenge! It really does show the type of learners, trials and success we see everyday in the science classroom! On Friday, we finished all the "stand and deliver" lessons in Chem 20! Now that does not mean that the learning in chem 20 is over, and it does mean that the kids still do have a lot of work to complete! This week, the kids will perform their final lab (based on their quick lab they completed a few weeks back), as well as they will be assigned their final stoich project. This will all lead into the final unit test, and the final exam... dun dun dun! Reminder, there are only 10 days left of class time! 10 Days!?!?! This week in chem 20 Monday: Work Period (ss20 field trip) Tuesday: Titration Lab Wednesday: Titration Lab continued Thursday: Work Period (Lab / Project) Friday: Work Period (Lab/Project) Upcoming Due Dates in Chem 20 Tues June 7: Stoich Unit Test Wed June 8: Titration Lab due Fri June 10: Stoich Project due LAST DAY TO HAND IN WORK FROM STOICH UNIT: FRIDAY JUNE 10 **no exceptions** This week in Chem 20, we are beginning with a quiz. I don't feel too bad about holding a quiz the first day back after a long weekend, because the chem 20s have had a variety of work periods and alot of time to ask questions and clear up any issues they have! After that, its on to Limiting and Excess Reagents, as well as % Yield Calculations... probably the most difficult part of all of chem 20, but also the final 2 lessons!
I would also like to take this time to again invite you all to the Exhibition of Learning this Thursday, May 26 from 5pm-8pm. We in the science department are running the Science Olympics, in which students will be provided with "black box items" to create a Rube Goldberg Machine! Should be fun, and quite competitive! This Week in Chem 20 Tuesday: Quiz 1 (Topic 1-4) Wednesday: Topic 5 (Limiting and Excess) Thursday: %Yield Lab Prep / Work Period Friday: Topic 6 % Yield Upcoming Due Dates in Chem 20 Tues May 24: Quiz 1 Topic 1-4 Wed May 25: Titration Quick Lab due Science Olympics: Thursday May 26 from 5-8pm! ![]() This week is going to be very fun in chem 20, and hopefully pretty easy! After completing the Unit C Acid Base test last week (which was quite well done), we are now full bore into Stoichiometry! So fun! This week in Chem 20 Monday: Quantity to Quantity Stoich Tuesday: Solution Stoich Wednesday: Titration Quick Lab Thursday: Work Period Upcoming Due Dates in Chem 20 Mon May 16: SCIENCE FAIR PROPOSAL due Tues May 24: Unit D Quiz (Topic 1-4) Wed May 25: Titration Quick Lab due ![]() What a BEAUTIFUL weekend! I hope you all got a chance to enjoy the sunshine, because it is starting to look like we won't see the sun for a while now :( This week in chem 20 we will be finishing up the acid base unit and getting into the final unit of chem 20 - STOICHIOMETRY!! woot woot woot!!! This unit is very important, worth 35% of the curriculum in chem 20, and the beauty of it is that it is all the same process! Easy peasy! This week in Chem 20 Monday: Review Period (Unit C) Tuesday: Unit C Acid Base Solution Test Wednesday: Intro to Stoich (Mole-Mole) Thursday: Quantity & Mole Stoich Friday: Quantity to Quantity Stoich Upcoming Due Dates in Chem 20 Tues May 10: UNIT C TEST ![]() Last week there was a drastic wave of ups and downs. Let's start with the positive, (almost) every student handed in their SQA lab on time... negatives, the quiz marks were pretty low, proving that most kids didn't really practice by doing their assigned class work. This fact was proven even more, by the 2 work periods students did not effectively use, closing out the week. Kids were provided with 2 classes to research and prepare their one page biomagnification project. At my checks, most kids had completed nothing by the end of the second day. That's pretty frustrating, and makes me rethink providing in class work time at all. That being said, this week is a busy learning week, so hopefully kids are doing their class work when they get time, as they have a lot to learn prior to the unit test! This Week in Chem 20 Monday: Topic 6 Arrhenius Tuesday: Topic 7 pH Wednesday: Topic 8 Measuring pH Thursday: Indicator Lab Friday: Work Period... maybe Upcoming Due Dates Tues May 3: Biomagnification Project due Mon May 9: Indicator Lab due Tues May 10: Unit C Solution Acid Base Test |
