![]() Welcome to Chemistry 20! I look forward to another great semester here at Chestermere High School! For many of you, this marks the 1/2 way point of your high school career, which is very exciting, but comes with it's own set of challenges! Please make sure to check out this website weekly, to see what is going on and what is coming up! I will have helpful links and messages to do with Diplomas and any relevant information! It is important to keep these lines of communication open, to ensure a quality relationship between teachers, parents and students. Success is best achieved when we are all on the same page! In an effort to ensure Life Long Learning, I will be out of the school on Wednesday February 4 for a Leadership Conference at Rocky View School Division. Although extremely beneficial to my teaching practice, it is quite frustrating as it is the 3rd day of school. I apologize in advance for any confusion or inconvenience. There will be a small research assignment provided to enhance the learning that day. Students will be allowed time to complete all work assigned so far as well. This week in Chem 20 Monday: Course Outline / WHMIS / Periodic Table / Sig Figs Tuesday: Science 10 Review: Bonding / Acids / Bases Wednesday: Work Period (Ms. Mogck at RVS) Thursday: Science 10 Review: Balancing Equations Friday: Science 10 Review: Mole Conversions Upcoming Due Dates Friday Feb 6 - SIGNED COURSE OUTLINE DUE

This week marks the end of classes and the beginning of exams for the students at CHS. In order to better prepare the students for the chemistry final, the students have been given a review package unique to this class. This 27 page review package demonstrates to students the areas of weakness and allows them a better feeling of what the exam will be like. Prior to the exam, I will be running tutorials to review the types of information the students will be required to know for each unit! Although classes are not mandatory, I do encourage students to attend minimum 2 tutorial times prior to the in final exam to ask any questions and clear up any issues!
This week in chem 30: Monday: Corrections / Lab Work (LAB DUE) Tuesday: OPTIONAL REWRITE (Acid base) Wednesday: OPTIONAL REWRITE (Stoich) Thursday: Review of Unit A/B Friday: Review of Unit C/D Ms. Mogck's Schedule for the tutorial week Monday: Classes as normal Tuesday: Block 2: CHEM 20 ACID BASE REWRITE, Block 4: CHEM 30 TUTORIAL Wednesday: Block 1: CHEM 20 STOICH REWRITE, Block 3: CHEM 30 TUTORIAL Thursday: Block 2: Chem 20 Review A/B, Block 4: CHEM 30 FINAL EXAM Friday: Block 1: Chem 20 Review C/D All other classes are open to work/study in the class and ask Ms. Mogck any questions. Please remember if you must present your science fair project by FRIDAY! Hopefully everyone got the rest they deserved over the break! And now... its crunch time! This week in chem 20, we will be completing the stoichiometry unit and entering into the review time! In order to better prepare my students for the new exam we will be developing, I spent Christmas holidays creating a 27 page review package to hand out to the kids.... and the photocopier is broken :( So I will be handing that out as soon as it is back up and running. Until then, the students have plenty of work to keep them busy and challenged!
Just a reminder that our regularly scheduled classes will go until Monday Jan 12 followed by Focused Learning Time Tutorials for the remainder of that week and Exam Week starting Jan 19. These FLT Tutorials will allow students to work at their own pace, with their own focuses, and they will be able to work in my classroom all day if they really want to (as long as they are working and not distracting others!) This will allow more of a one on one tutorial approach, as well as encourage group study sessions! Students also have the option of completing the Science Fair Project, which is a large (completely optional) project that will replace 10% of their final exam (allowing the exam to be worth only 25% instead of the 35% it is worth without the project). This project was handed out early December, and students are very aware of the requirements! The science fair project must be handed in and presented by Friday, January 16 in order to be counted towards the final exam. Additionally, students have the opportunity to rewrite their unit tests (C/D) during the FLT time, after they complete their corrections for the unit tests. This will allow them to review the two heaviest units prior to the final exam January 21. This Week in Chem 20 Monday: Titration Lab Completion Tuesday: Review of Stoich Wednesday: Work Period / Study Period Thursday: Stoich Unit D Test Friday: REVIEW OF CHEM 20 Monday: REVIEW OF CHEM 20 Important Dates to Know: Thursday January 8: Unit D Stoich Test Monday January 12: Stoich Titration Lab due (no extensions) Wednesday January 14 - Thursday January 15: REWRITES Friday January 15 - Science Fair Project Due Final Chemistry 20 Exam: Wednesday January 21 |
