![]() Chemistry 20 has started to freak kids out! This week, we completed our first unit of Chemistry 20: Molecular Bonding, and the kids were handed out the major (summative) project. It is my intentions to one day make this project be the formal assessment in the unit (instead of the exam) however, since it is only the second time I have done this project, I feel the assessment needs to be perfected first! The project asks students to create 3D structures of bonds, and explain how it is happening, and what forces are present behind the scenes. It is a very interesting project, as students are able to chose any molecule that may be of interest to them (I have seen 13 crystal meth models in the 2 classes that have actually done this project, lets hope these kids are more original). Being away for volleyball on Friday, the students had plenty of work time for their project, as well as topic work. Hopefully they used their time appropriately. This week will be slightly altered (from the original schedule). Originally, I had the students writing their exam Tuesday. This does not make me feel comfortable, as I would like time to review the unit and allow students time to work on their projects. For this reason I will move the exam to Thursday and the project will be due Monday October 6. Next week, we will begin the Gases unit of chemistry 20, which is basically a math unit. As long as students are able to manipulate formulas and extract understanding from lab results, they usually do well in this unit. Coming up this week: MONDAY Review of unit topics Complete Topic 1-5 Practice Test TUESDAY Work period Extra review from questions Project work time WEDNESDAY Ms. Mogck out @ ALP2 District Office Project work time THURSDAY Unit A Test FRIDAY Intro to Gases Unit Corrections for Exam Project work time Due dates to watch out for: ***PAST DUE: Chemical Bonding Lab*** Unit A Exam: Thursday Oct 2 Molecular Project Due: Monday Oct 6
